Egyptians Engulfed by the Waters of the Red Sea

Etching printed in black; two wood blocks printed in brown and two shades of green

The fan-like shape shows that the design was intended for painting on pottery. The original drawing is now in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. The brown areas that can be seen in each upper corner, which at first sight may look like dirt, are in fact reproducing the oxidisation of the wash in the original drawing.
